Customized Items – So many options!
With So Many options Available? What and How to choose Wisely?
As far as promotional items are concerned, there are more and more options available. Now a days we can custom print on just about anything. To top it off, more and more companies are offering custom printed items and prices can vary greatly. The questions is, what can you do to keep things not only simpler, but also get a good price and select an item that will meet your goals?
Of course, price matters. But how do you know if you got a great price for the item you selected? And we are not just talking about cost. What some companies seem to to is go on the web, find the item that looks like what they want, and just order. Simple, right? Not really, more often than not, the promotional item is either nothing like what you expected when it arrives. The quality is low, the color is off, the size is cheap, the shape is odd…and so on. Trust me, we have heard it all. So yes, price matters, but only after you have a chance to see if the item that will bear your logo and/or slogan is as you expected. Don’t think that such common promotional items as mugs, t-shirts, hats… are all the same just because they look the same on two different web sites or catalogs. Our suggestion is, get a sample every time. Ask a lot of questions from someone who cares about your goals and knows the promotional product industry and all the great options it offers. Then, ask for the best possible price available.
The Print Quality
So, you are not Coca Cola and will not be ordering millions of branded bottles with the same print. You still want a quality print that will last. I have seen too many cheaply printed promotional products that either had the wrong type of chemical imprint or embossing or decal…, were printed too lightly , had the wrong type of print for the item… and the results were a waste of money as the message was not seen or faded/peeled off/rubbed off.. too fast.
Yes, made in China can get sometimes you a big price break! And, at times, great promotional items WILL come from China. But, first of all, why buy made in China, when made in USA is available at the same price and often is of better quality? Why take the risk that your promotional item will not meet health safety regulation? Why get an product that will not last, at minimum, as long as one should expect? Yes, item quality so very much matter. Don’t save a few dollars only to regret it later. Once again, getting a sample of the promotional item you are interested in is very important.
Mailing it or Handing it out?
What could be so complicated about that part of the selection. As giveaways, some items are best when demonstrated. Yes, even the value of an item as simple as a hat can be enhanced if it is handled in an interested way. Show people that you value the gift and they will be likley to value too (and use it!!!). On the surface, it would seem that anything to be mailed in quantities should be small, bendable and and as flat as possible. This may greatly reduce cost. And that is an important consideration. What some business owner do not realize is that, particularly for none pliable items, the item needs to make it in one piece if it is to be mailed. In addition, you will likely add a letter or some pamphlet with the promotional item. Did you know what, if not handled properly, some promotional items can considerably damage your letter and/or pamphlet. The client or prospect may be happy to your free promotional item but they not be able to figure out who it is from or be so unimpressed by the quality of your mailing that your free gift may have the opposite effect than intended.
And there is so much more such as safety. made in USA, delivery time, after sale support… The bottom line is, no matter how great the price, if the promotional item does not fit the need, it’s too expensive. Make sure to work with companies that will stand behind their work but even more important, companies that will offer to help you and guide through the selection from millions of items. Please ask as many questions as you need to and do not hesitate to ask for a no obligation free custom quote.
